How does Smylen work?

You enter your geographic location for your new dentist and select the dental procedure you want. Smylen will present you with a number of awesome dental offices to select from and the reduced fee associated with each location. Once you make your selection, you will be able to schedule an appointment and make your payment – all through our website.

How is Smylen able to get these lower fees?

Dentists are not completely booked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Most dentists would rather offer you a reduced fee for a procedure than have “empty dental chair time”. Smylen allows you to access these reduced fees from the comfort of your living room any time of day!

What is the cost to use Smylen?

There are booking fees added to the dentist’s price for any dental procedure. With a Smylen Membership, there are no booking fees! Our Self Diagnosis Tool is always free to use.

At Smylen, we are working for you and not the insurance company. Our Smylen Care Navigators will help you find the best dental office that fits your needs. Not all insurances work the same way and our experts will be sure you fully understand your patient responsibility so you are never left with an unexpected bill.

What if I don’t know what I need?

Smylen offers a free Self Diagnosis Tool, which can help guide you in selecting the appropriate procedure for yourself. Members also have access to our Care Navigators™ who can guide them in the right direction. All Smylen appointments will begin with the dentist verifying that your procedure is the appropriate treatment for you.

What happens if I choose the wrong procedure?

If the dentist determines that you don’t need a booked procedure, you will have two options:

  1. Receive the appropriate procedure from your new Smylen dentist. You will always be entitled to pay that dentist’s Smylen fee, which you will be informed of before beginning treatment. This will all be handled by the Smylen staff and your new dentist.
  2. Receive an immediate full refund. (Bonus: you just had a free dental consultation!)

Why can’t I see the provider's name until after checkout?

Smylen Members have instant access to all Smylen doctor profiles and will be able to see the provider’s name & address immediately. For non-members, Smylen’s “blind” dentist model is what allows us to offer patients such incredible fees – far below what these dentists offer to their regular patients. You will always know your out-of-pocket cost and be able to see all the information about the dental office (geographic area, online ratings, photos, dental school attended, previous reviews, & more). All our dentists are Smylen Verified and our fees are transparent.

What does it mean that your dentists are Smylen Verified?

At Smylen, we take your oral health very seriously. All dentists are hand-picked by our team or by referral only to ensure that your experience is of the highest quality. They must:

  1. Have stellar online reputations - 4 stars or greater.
  2. Have up-to-date credentials - actively maintain professional license & other identifiers.
  3. Regularly attend continuing education courses - at least 60 hours tri-annually.
  4. Graduated from a top dental school. All of this information is verified and updated regularly.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?

You can reschedule your appointment at any time by logging into your Smylen account and viewing your appointment. Alternatively, you can reschedule your appointment directly with your new Smylen dentist. You will always be entitled to your Smylen treatment fee regardless of if you reschedule your appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

You are able to cancel your appointment up to 24 hours prior for a full refund. You can cancel your appointment by logging in to your account and viewing your appointment then selecting cancel. For any cancellations less than 24 hours in advance please email ashley@smylen.com. Cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment time will be subject to a $50 fee. Your doctor will always verify that you are a candidate for the treatment at your initial visit. If you are not, or do not want to proceed with treatment, you will be entitled to a full refund - no questions asked.

What is your refund policy?

Appointments canceled more than 24 hours of the appointment time are eligible for a full refund. If your Smylen dentist determines that you are not a candidate for your treatment, you will be entitled to a full refund - no questions asked.

How are payments made on Smylen?

As a Smylen member, you can book your appointments online without prepaying for your treatment. At checkout, you will see the total cost of your procedure. On the day of your appointment, or once your treatment is started, you will be charged in full. If the treatment you initially chose is not appropriate you will have the option to switch your treatment or cancel your appointment for no charge.

Non-members pay a $50 deposit at the time of booking. This deposit will go towards the total cost of your procedure. At the time of your appointment, once treatment is started you will be charged the remaining balance. Again, if you are not eligible or decide not to move forward, your deposit will be refunded.

What is Affirm?

Affirm is a financial solution for dental treatments offered on Smylen. At the time of your checkout, you will have the option to pay with Affirm. This will take you to an approval process. From there you will have several options of payment plans, including interest-free financing, with Affirm. Payment options through Affirm are subject to an eligibility check and are provided by these lending partners

How are follow-up appointments made?

To book an appointment with your new Smylen dentist, please log in to your account and head to your Match History. You will see an option there to Rebook with your dentist.

What if I have dental insurance?

If you add your dental insurance information to your Smylen account, you will then be able to view estimated procedure pricing based on your patient responsibility according to your insurance plan. On the day of your appointment, you will be billed only the amount that your insurance states you are responsible for.

How do I submit my treatment for reimbursement to my insurance?

Your benefits will vary depending on which dental plan you have. We always recommend that you contact your carrier directly to understand this - as well as their submission guidelines.

Is my information secure?

Smylen puts the privacy of our patients and doctors first by highly securing your data. First, it is encrypted such that unauthorized personnel cannot access any sensitive data in storage or transit, and second, it is backed up to minimize the possibilities of data loss. All passwords, personal information, payment, and medical data are protected. We are overly careful not to share data with third parties.

How do I submit feedback about my Smylen dentist?

After your treatment is complete, you will be sent an email with instructions about reviewing your dental experience. This information is strictly confidential and is used only by Smylen employees for quality control purposes.
